Whittle emphasizes interrupted and implied forms in his paintings. These forms are the result of editing. With each layer of paint, he overlaps or conceals, the painted surface which is built up into uneven fragments. He uses acrylic, watercolor, India ink and spray paint. Best known for his brightly hued dreamlike drawings of mid-century chairs, his work has continued to evolve toward pure abstraction.
Whittle earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Studio Art from St. Gregory’s University in 2006 and later studied painting at University of Tulsa. Whittle has exhibited in commercial galleries having both group and solo exhibitions at JRB Art Gallery in OKC, Mainsite in Norman, Mabee Gerrer Museum of Art in Shawnee and Living Arts in Tulsa.
Texas born, Tulsa raised, abstract painter Jesse Whittle currently resides in Tulsa, Oklahoma. In addition to his work as a visual artist, in 2010 Whittle became a certified art teacher. In 2014 Whittle was named Teacher of the Year at Mannford Middle School. Whittle currently teaches 2D and 3D art at Union 8th Grade Center, and is happily married to his lovely wife Angie and two dogs Lizzy and Rowdy.
